As mentioned previously, Department 56 announced the retirement of various village and Snowbaby products on Friday November 3rd. You can see the retirement lists by clicking on the links here: Village and Snowbabies.
Maybe it is just me but it seems that the number of retired items this year was more than usual. Other than the New England Village which had only a handful of retired pieces, all the other 5 “major” Village series shed quite a few from their inventories. The other “minor” Village series did not fare any better either, especially for the First Frost Village and Holiday in the Woods Village which had lost all of their building sets while the entire Elf the Movie Village and the Harley-Davidson Village were retired. Does it mean that there will be many new introductions waiting for us in the new year?
Another interesting fact regarding the retirement is that the company has already retired the Village Friends Heritage Kit that was introduced at the start of this year. Was the kit not popular with collectors? But honestly, how many of us saw these kits available for sale in our local Department 56 retailers?
